Sustainable Spring Capsule Wardrobe
Spring has officially sprung, and that means it’s time to pack up the puffer jackets and switch over to a spring capsule wardrobe. So, if you’re in the process of planning your spring wardrobe, you’ve come to the right place!
New to capsule wardrobes? No worries, we’re more than happy to go over the basics. A capsule wardrobe is a mini wardrobe made up of high-quality basics and versatile pieces that can easily be styled together countless ways, so you can do more with less. A capsule wardrobe is typically about 30-50 pieces per season, and many of those pieces should overlap to be worn over multiple seasons or even year-round. However, there are no rigid rules when it comes to building your capsule wardrobe. Factors such as lifestyle, personal style and the climate you live in will determine what your ideal capsule wardrobe looks like, so no two capsule wardrobes will be the same.
As a sustainable fashion brand, we’re big advocates for capsule wardrobes and investing in fewer, but better pieces of clothing. The average American has been estimated to throw away around 37kg of clothes each year. And as of 2019, the average consumer buys 60 percent more pieces of clothing than 15 years ago. This process of overconsumption is destroying our planet, and our buying patterns need to change to a more sustainable approach. In addition to the sustainability benefits of switching to a capsule wardrobe, there are also major personal benefits you’ll experience. One of those benefits being the time you’ll save picking out an outfit each morning. It has been estimated that the majority of people wear 20% of their closet 80% of the time. That 80% of clothing that you don’t love clutters your wardrobe, making it difficult to pick an outfit. When your closet consists of only pieces you absolutely love, and you’ve selected because they can be easily paired with other items in your wardrobe, choosing an outfit each day will be a breeze. No more looking into a closet and feeling like you have nothing to wear! Another clear benefit is the space you’ll regain in your home that was previously occupied by clothing. Lastly, a capsule wardrobe should provide financial benefits. Investing in high-quality pieces that are truly made to last for many years will yield a better cost per wear than a $5 t-shirt that needs to be frequently replaced.
